A summary of the extensive repair works needed to the Bell Tower of St Mary’s Church Bepton.

All of the works to the Norman Tower must have regard to and be compliant with the Grade 1 Listed Status of the church.

In addition, due to the presence of Bats, the building work must have regard to their protected status and a works mitigation license must be obtained.

Scaffolding and a temporary roof covering will be installed while the roof is stripped and supports to the roof frame put in place to remove the weight of the roof from the Bell frame. This will facilitate the re-use of the bells and the overhaul of the bell frame.

Extensive repair work to the currently degrading Tower buttresses is essential and the Tower masonry requires extensive areas of render and repointing.
