Bell Tower Repairs

Good progrss is being made. The work started in September and it is hoped that it will be completed by mid December in time for the annual carol concert.

Repairs to the Church Tower have commenced in earnest, many will have seen the scaffolding now enclosing the tower including a full roof over cover.

The tower roof has been stripped of tiles felt and battens and the Architects ad Engineers have been able to make a close up inspection of the structure and revise areas of the specification that need additional strengthening whilst needing to retain the historic integrity.

Pictures show the insertion of new steel beams that will take the weight of the King post roof structure and ultimately  enable the removal of the former inappropriately installed props onto the Bell frame.

Following completion of the roof the contractors will focus on the walls and buttress.

Owing to the additional work and need to move carefully the end date for works will be extended to mid December and possibly the new year if we have frosts and rain that may hinder where traditional sand lime mortars are involved.

We thank the many private individuals who have donated and continue to do so to enable this much needed work to go ahead, and The Cowdray Estate in affording access and services.
